LHS is super excited to announce the Local Board of Education approved the promotion of Hayden Headley as the Golden Arrows head baseball coach. Coach Hayden Headley has spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach for the Golden Arrows. Prior to being employed by Lavaca Schools, Headley grew up on the fields and hardwoods of the Golden Arrow campus while his dad, Coach Mark Headley coached. After baseball season, his dad announced his retirement from coaching the Arrows after a 27-year run across multiple sports over the years. He is looking forward to the new era for the Golden Arrows. Coach Mark Headley describes his son as “a coach that has the ability to build relationships and care about the student-athletes in Lavaca which is a trait that sets him apart.”
Coach Hayden Headley is ready to hit the ground running and will spend time with his team in the off-season this summer. The Golden Arrows will have workouts and camps as they begin preparing for the spring 2025 season. In the fall, Headley will be an assistant football coach. Exciting times are ahead for the Golden Arrows!

LHS is super excited to announce the Local Board of Education approved the promotion of Amber Graves as the Golden Arrows head cheer coach. Coach Graves has been an assistant in the program in recent years and has seen the arrows take State runner-up (2022, 2023), 5th place at Nationals (2023), and 3rd place at Nationals (2024). Athletic Director, Mark Headley says, “Coach Graves is a hometown girl that was driven and passionate about the sports she played. We are excited for her to share that drive and passion with our student-athletes as our head cheer coach.”
When asked about the transition into the head coach role, this was her response: “It has been a privilege to be Assistant Coach for the past three years and I am honored to take on the responsibility of Head Coach for the Lavaca Cheer Program! My family has passed down generations of Arrow Spirit; we have purple and gold in our veins! In December 2019, I remember having a conversation with my parents before embarking on a new life journey. At that moment I realized my calling was different than I had been planning. The next week I began my journey as an aspiring teacher/coach, with the goal of coaching cheer for the Golden Arrows. I am beyond proud to be in this position and am looking forward to taking on this new challenge with some amazing athletes!”
The LHS Cheer team will be attending NCA Skills Camp at the University of Oklahoma this week and the LJH Cheer team will be attending UCA Camp in July. You will be able to see the Cheer Arrows on Thursday and Friday nights throughout football season before they head into the 2024-2025 competition season that will begin in November. Exciting times are ahead for the Golden Arrows!
