Lavaca Public Schools is excited to announce the Local Board of Education named Mrs. Jamie Patterson as the new Elementary Principal. Mrs. Patterson enters this position starting her 15th year in education and has been known as Coach Patterson, Counselor, and now Principal. Middle School principal, Mr. Randy Hogan congratulates Mrs. Patterson and when asked about working with her, he said, “I am excited for our district and community as she continues her outstanding service and leadership in this new role.” As she transitions into this new administrative role, she will be working closely with the school district’s administrative team. High School principal, Dr. Felicia Owen, said, “Mrs. Patterson has a heart for the students at Lavaca Schools and brings to this position a passion for the entire community. Her dedication to the field and education and loyalty to the Golden Arrows will be an asset to the district’s admin team.”
Mrs. Patterson will celebrate 16 years of marriage to her husband, Jamie Patterson this August. Together, they have two children that are Golden Arrows, Myla Kay is in the 9th grade and Hadley Lynn is in the 7th. When asked about transitioning to this new role, she stated, “I am so honored to serve at Lavaca Public Schools in this capacity! Lavaca is truly a special place to be. I’m so thankful for the relationships that I already have due to my past years of experience and look forward to continuing my journey in this new position.”

The Lady Arrows softball team has been hard at work this month with Skills & Drills On Monday and Thursday nights. Junior high athletes with an interest in softball have been joining the high school team members for these practices to hone in on skills needed as future Lady Arrow. The team will take a break for the mandatory dead weeks & be back on the field in July as they prepare for the 2025 season. We are looking forward to another great year with many returners on the field. Great things are happening in Lavaca Athletics!!

The basketball Lady Arrows traveled to Harding for a team camp as they wrapped up their June practices! They will be back on the hardwood in July preparing for the upcoming season.








LHS is super excited to announce the Local Board of Education approved the promotion of Bailey Shaffer as the Lady Arrows head softball coach. Coach Shaffer has spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach for the Lady Arrows softball team. Athletic Director, Mark Headley said, “We are excited to have Coach Shaffer transition into our head softball coach. With her collegiate softball experience and extensive softball background, we are looking forward to seeing what she will bring to our program.”
Coach Shaffer is currently leading off-season this summer with organized team practices. When asked about her new role, she responded, "I am thrilled to step up as head softball coach at Lavaca High School, building on the legacy of success that has come in previous seasons. I am so grateful for the opportunity to give back to a sport that shaped me into who I am today. Lavaca has welcomed me into their community with open arms and I am excited to work with the student athletes. Let's write the next chapter together and GO ARROWS!"
You will be able to see the Lady Arrows in action when the new season begins in the spring of 2025. In the fall, Shaffer will be an assistant volleyball coach. Exciting times are ahead for the Lady Arrows!

The junior football Arrows participated in a team camp at Charleston last week. June was also filled with skills, drills, & strength training in preparation for the fall season.

This week, our football Golden Arrows have been hitting the drills on our home turf & focusing on strength & conditioning in the weight room. Over the last few weeks, the team has attended team camps at Charleston & Arkansas Tech University. Also, they participated in a 7 on 7 at Mena. The fall season is quickly approaching & we can’t wait to see our team in action!

LHS Cheer attended the National Cheerleading Association camp at the University of Oklahoma! Congrats to Ady Taylor on being selected as an All American Cheerleader! Lawson Webb received the Pin it Forward award for being a leader in encouraging others. We are proud of the team’s hard work & are looking forward to competition season in 24-25!

LHS is super excited to announce the Local Board of Education approved the promotion of Hayden Headley as the Golden Arrows head baseball coach. Coach Hayden Headley has spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach for the Golden Arrows. Prior to being employed by Lavaca Schools, Headley grew up on the fields and hardwoods of the Golden Arrow campus while his dad, Coach Mark Headley coached. After baseball season, his dad announced his retirement from coaching the Arrows after a 27-year run across multiple sports over the years. He is looking forward to the new era for the Golden Arrows. Coach Mark Headley describes his son as “a coach that has the ability to build relationships and care about the student-athletes in Lavaca which is a trait that sets him apart.”
Coach Hayden Headley is ready to hit the ground running and will spend time with his team in the off-season this summer. The Golden Arrows will have workouts and camps as they begin preparing for the spring 2025 season. In the fall, Headley will be an assistant football coach. Exciting times are ahead for the Golden Arrows!

LHS is super excited to announce the Local Board of Education approved the promotion of Amber Graves as the Golden Arrows head cheer coach. Coach Graves has been an assistant in the program in recent years and has seen the arrows take State runner-up (2022, 2023), 5th place at Nationals (2023), and 3rd place at Nationals (2024). Athletic Director, Mark Headley says, “Coach Graves is a hometown girl that was driven and passionate about the sports she played. We are excited for her to share that drive and passion with our student-athletes as our head cheer coach.”
When asked about the transition into the head coach role, this was her response: “It has been a privilege to be Assistant Coach for the past three years and I am honored to take on the responsibility of Head Coach for the Lavaca Cheer Program! My family has passed down generations of Arrow Spirit; we have purple and gold in our veins! In December 2019, I remember having a conversation with my parents before embarking on a new life journey. At that moment I realized my calling was different than I had been planning. The next week I began my journey as an aspiring teacher/coach, with the goal of coaching cheer for the Golden Arrows. I am beyond proud to be in this position and am looking forward to taking on this new challenge with some amazing athletes!”
The LHS Cheer team will be attending NCA Skills Camp at the University of Oklahoma this week and the LJH Cheer team will be attending UCA Camp in July. You will be able to see the Cheer Arrows on Thursday and Friday nights throughout football season before they head into the 2024-2025 competition season that will begin in November. Exciting times are ahead for the Golden Arrows!

The annual LHS Alumni Reunion Luncheon was held today at the Student Union on the high school campus. The current Student Council members served the guests & enjoyed visiting with the alumni of previous LHS classes.







LHS May Spotlights



LHS juniors Julia Owen & Monica Smithson were selected as delegates to attend Girls State this week at Harding University. Arkansas Girls State in an immersive civics education program that began in 1942. The program teaches future generations of Arkansas citizens to be actively involved in their communities and government at every level.
