Today at approximately 2:45 p.m., Lavaca School District was notified of an attempted armed robbery in the vicinity of our campus. The suspect reportedly fled the scene on foot with a weapon.
Out of an abundance of caution and in accordance with our safety protocols, the district immediately initiated a full lockdown to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Students and staff remained in full lockdown until law enforcement determined there was no immediate threat to the campus. At that time, we transitioned to a soft lockdown, allowing students limited movement for necessities such as restroom breaks and water.
Our LPS Security Director remained in constant communication with incident command throughout the situation. Once law enforcement confirmed it was safe to do so, students were dismissed, and buses were allowed to proceed on their regular routes.
District administration would like to commend our staff for their calm, professional, and precise execution of our crisis response plan. Situations such as this are fluid and require teamwork, composure, and strict adherence to established procedures. Our staff performed exactly as trained, and their actions ensured the continued safety of our students.
Lavaca School District extends its sincere appreciation to the Lavaca Police Department, Barling Police Department, Greenwood Police Department, Central City Police Department, Sebastian County Sheriff's Office, and the Arkansas State Police for their rapid response, coordination, and continued partnership in keeping our schools and community safe.

LHS held it's 1st Annual FFA Day event this week! Over 500 students in grade K-8 visited the high school & were immersed in agricultural experiences. Students learned about horticulture, crops, planting, & visited the hydroponic towers before exploring the shop. In the shop, students learned about operating a plasma cutter, welders, & the CNC machine. They were able to touch wooden bird houses, animal cut outs, & signs. Local businesses, community members, & farmers provided interactive stations for petting animals, exploring soil, & viewing farm equipment. The Lavaca FFA Chapter wants to thank our partners & supporters for helping us create this meaningful experience to our future members!

Jake Zluticky is always a favorite among our students, and today he was one of our guest speakers!
He encouraged our students to be confident in who they are and embrace what makes them unique. He also brought the fun by hosting a dunk contest and a rap contest. We appreciate him and the positive impact he continues to make!

We had an awesome day at LMS with guest speakers from PRADCO Outdoor Brands!
They shared about their company, introduced their corgi Gus, and brought merch for every student. Our students loved it, and it was a great opportunity to inspire them and connect learning to real-world careers. Thank you, PRADCO for taking the time for our students!
