Lavaca Beta Club hosted our District Blood Drive today. Our LHS students and staff came together to make a difference in our community by donating blood. It's incredible to see how our school community is always ready to lend a helping hand. 💖 We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Arkansas Blood Institute and everyone who participated. Your generosity and willingness to donate will undoubtedly make a significant impact on those in need. 💪🩸❤️ Let's continue to support initiatives like these and keep spreading kindness in our community. Shea Foldvary from United Way spoke to our GT students today about volunteer opportunities and the importance of community involvement.
LHS students participated in Red Ribbon Week by watching the 7 Days: The Opioid Crisis in Arkansas today. Students completed a reflection activity following the documentary and many reported they were surprised at the number of deaths related to drug overdoses in our state. According to a news release from the Arkansas House of Representatives - in 2022, it was estimated that 225 people died every day in America from an overdose. Caden McDonald and Julia Owen, LHS Juniors, were selected to serve on the 23-24 Congressional Youth Cabinet. They attended the initial meeting with U.S. Senator John Bozeman at the Old State House in Little Rock today. At the meeting, along with other Arkansas high school students, they discussed current political issues impacting the state.
