6th Grade ELA Teacher
I began my current position as the 6th Grade English Language Arts teacher at Lavaca Middle School in 2016. I am a certified Reading Specialist. I am an active member of the Arkansas Literacy Association.
I have worked for Lavaca School District since 2013. I was the 21CCLC Before & After School District Coordinator for one year, where I managed the programs for both Lavaca Elementary and Lavaca Middle Schools. I then moved to Coordinated School Health, where I was the District Coordinator for two years. I have also been an online ESL teacher since March of 2019, and I taught 7th and 8th grade virtual students during the 2020-2021 school year.
My husband, Jason, and I, have been married for 23 years. Our daughter, Brynn, who graduated from Lavaca High School with Honors, attends Arkansas Tech University as a Junior, majoring in Graphic Design. We have a “Dorkie” (Dachshund– Yorkie mix) named Ellie, a (very mischievous) cat named Oliver, and a dog who adopted us last summer, Betty.
Teaching is my passion, but I have many other interests and hobbies. I also work as an online ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher. I get to teach Chinese students to speak, read and write, and do math in English. It is an amazing experience! Aside from this and spending time with my family, I enjoy reading, running outdoors, hoarding houseplants, and listening to my husband play music and sing. I enjoy old (as in from the 40s through the 80s) TV shows and movies, and I like to do jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, play board games, and do any type of word or trivia game I can find. I thrive on challenges, so I consider myself a lifelong learner!
